The Heart of Georgia Railroad completes $6.2 million rehabilitation project between Rochelle Ga. and Preston Ga. The project made the line segment 286,000 lb capable, and dramatically improves the HOG?s ability to provide safe and reliable service to its customers. The project completed in May 2003 included installation of over 80,000 crossties, repair of 27 grade crossing signals and 25 bridges, and has greatly improved the track structure of the railroad between Rochelle and Preston. Prior to the work approximately 20 miles of the track was in excepted status and the remaining track needed extensive repair to maintain Class 2 track status.
