Atlanta based Archer Western Company has completed a new concrete manufacturing facility on the HOG in Cordele Georgia to produce concrete needed to complete an I-75 widening project.

The project underway by Archer Western includes the widening of ten miles of I-75 through Cordele, and entails rebuilding bridges and interchanges within the project,?while the existing four lane Interstate is being widened to six lanes of new concrete surface.

The Cordele facility employees over 150 workers, and represents the first rail served facility operated by Archer Western.

Archer Western is one of the nations largest highway contractors, and is rated as the third largest equipment owners in the country.? With multiple projects underway, and no past history with rail service to its plants, Archer Western selected the HOG site due in part to its proximity to the project, and also because of HOG's ability to provide timely and efficient service to the plant.

In order to facilitate rail service, HOG and Archer Western teamed together to construct a 3850 foot rail siding to accomodate 30 car units of aggregates.? With an annual requirment of nearly 400,000 tons, rail is by far the most efficient way for Archer Western to effectively handle the needed aggregate volume.
