Cordele Intermodal Services Inc. (CIS) announced that it has finalized agreements with Crisp County Georgia Industrial Development Commission (IDC) to operate the new Inland Port faciltiy being built by Crisp IDC in Cordele Georgia.
Construction of the first phase of the new facility will get under way July 14th with an official gound breaking ceremony. Anticipated opening of the first phase of the project is October 1st 2010. Jonathan Lafevers President and Chief Commercial Officer for CIS says that when complete the first phase of the project will allow CIS to handle 20,000 lifts annually. Completion of the second phase of the project will increase lift capcity to 100,000 per year.
The first phase of the Inland Port will be served directly by Heart of Georgia Rairoad (HOG). Intermodal traffic will move between the Inland Port at Cordele and the Port of Savannah via an CSX switch to Georgia Central Railway (GC) who will handle the traffic between Savannah and its interchange with HOG at Vidalia Georgia.
